U.S. employers are responsible for completion and retention of
Form I-9 for each individual they hire for employment in the United
States. This includes citizens and non-citizens. On the form, the
employer must verify the employment eligibility and identity
documents presented by the employee and record the document
information on the Form I-9. Picture ID and SS Card, Green Card.
Must not be photo copies. They must have "original documentation".
The I-9 must be kept "Separate" from the
Employee's file.

You need to complete Form I-9 only for people you actually hire. For
purposes of the I-9 rules, a person is "hired" when he or she begins
to work for you for wages or other compensation. You have 3 days to

form must be kept by the employer either for three years
after the date of hire or for one year after employment is
terminated, whichever is later. The form must be available
for inspection by the authorized U.S. Government officials
(Department of Labor).
